This Homemade Chicken and Dumplings Recipe is one of my absolute favorites! This is a recipe that I grew up eating and probably one of the first recipes that I learned to make. I love that it is super simple and just says “home” to me!

Homemade Chicken and Dumplings

The fact that you can make the dumplings ahead of time and have an easy freezer meal is perfect for my busy life. Sometimes I will even make up a couple of batches of dumplings while i’m cooking so that I have them ready to go in my freezer!

Chicken and Dumplings

Homemade Chicken and Dumplings Recipe

INGREDIENTS:
2 Cups Unbleached Flour
1/2 Teaspoon Salt
2 Teaspoons Egg Replacer
3/4 Cup Water
4 Cups Swanson Chicken Broth
1 1/2 Cups Chopped Chicken
1 Can Cream of Chicken Soup
Carrots and Celery (optional)
Salt and Pepper to taste

DIRECTIONS:

How to Make Homemade Dumplings

Combine Unbleached Flour, Salt, and Egg Replacer.

Add Water to make a stiff dough.

Put flour into a gallon size plastic bag, and roll the dough out in the bag.

Put in freezer on a flat surface.

Homemade Dumplings

When you are ready to make your Chicken and Dumplings, remove plastic bag from freezer.

Cut the plastic bag open and cut the dough into dumpling pieces.

Swanson Chicken Broth

Place broth in a heavy sauce pan and bring to a boil (this is where you can add your dehydrated carrots and celery flakes if you want).

Add dumplings and reduce heat to low.

Cover the dumplings and cook for 20 minutes.

Chicken and Dumplings from Scratch

Remove lid and add chicken and cream of chicken soup and stir.

Continue cooking for 5 minutes and add salt and pepper to taste.

Enjoy!

Chicken and Dumplings Homemade

I like to add celery flakes and dehydrated carrots to my Chicken and Dumplings. You could always used cooked carrots and celery chopped :)!  I think it adds a lot of flavor and color to this recipe. Plus it is an easy way to add vegetables to your meal (especially if you are feeding this to kids)!

Out of all of the Chicken and Dumplings Recipes that I’ve had (either at home or a restaurant) this is my favorite recipe by far! The noodles have the perfect texture, and you can determine how much broth you want to use. I personally like my Chicken and Dumplings to be thick and hearty! Mmm!
