How to make Chicken Penne Pasta Sauce in the Slow Cooker

How to make Slow Cooker Chicken Penne Pasta

Gather all of your ingredients and measure out the spices you will need for the sauce.

You will want to combine the tomato paste and the water first so that the tomato paste gets mixed in well.

Once that is completely, add in all of the other ingredients including diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, sugar, chili powder, garlic powder, parsley, onion flakes, pepper, salt, and oregano, and mix well.

You can add red pepper flakes too if you want to, but it will make your sauce spicy.

Add your raw chicken and cover your slow cooker with the lid and cook on high for 4-5 hours.

I like to remove my lid after about 3.5 – 4 hours so that the sauce will thicken up.

Make the noodles according to page and serve the sauce over the noodles once it’s ready!

Garnish with parmesan or mozzarella cheese!

Did you make this recipe?

Share it with me! I'd love to see your creation!

I was able to get all of the ingredients for this recipe at my local Aldi store so it was super budget friendly! This Organic Brown Rice and Quinoa Pasta is our absolute favorite.

We love it so much more than normal pasta and it’s so much healthier too!

Can I substitute beef in this penne pasta recipe?

Yes! Absolutely! I’ve made this recipe with beef before and it’s amazing! Such an easy switch depending on which meet you have on hand. You could also use pre-cooked chicken.

Can you put dry pasta in a slow cooker?

Absolutely! This would be a great recipe to add the pasta to the slow cooker. If you are adding the pasta directly to the slow cooker, do not take the lid off to thicken the sauce. The noodles will help absorb the sauce. Add noodles 25-30 minutes before you’re ready to serve the pasta.

Does this recipe freeze well?

This Chicken Penne Pasta Sauce freezes very well. I like to keep my sauce and noodles separate so that I can freeze any left over sauce. I would not freeze the sauce and noodles together.

This is by far one of my favorite dinner recipes. I have made it over and over again and it always comes out so good! I normally add the red pepper flakes to my plate after I dish up the pasta because my hubby doesn’t like anything spicy.

If you want a homemade pasta sauce from scratch, this one will be your new favorite. So easy to make with a few basic pantry ingredients.

Sometimes I even add a little extra parsley and dried onion to my recipe!
