Why are my chocolate cookies hard?
Your chocolate cookies are hard because you either overworked the dough or left them in the oven too long. Try using a fork instead of a mixer to avoid over mixing and watch the cookies at the end of the time for the center to be done.
What is the best Chocolate for Chocolate Cookies?
I used Chocolate Pudding in this recipe, but you could always use cocoa powder instead of powdered sugar.
How do you make chocolate frosting from scratch?!
This chocolate frosting is SO easy and one of my new favorite frosting recipes! Combine powdered sugar, cocoa powder, water, and vanilla extract. Mix well until smooth. If you would rather use milk than water, go for it! Just keep in mind your cookies will need to be stored in the refrigerator!
How to make Chocolate Cookies from Scratch
First you will need to gather your ingredients to make sure you have everything, preheat your oven to 350 degrees, and line a baking sheet or two with parchment paper.
In a mixing bowl, use a fork to cream together the butter, brown sugar, and white sugar. I love this part – something about it is so satisfying! Add in the eggs and vanilla and mix well!
Next, pour in the chocolate pudding, baking soda, and salt! Slowly mix in flour until combined.
Fold in the chocolate chips. I like to use mini chocolate chips because of their texture and how they bake, but you can use regular sized if you’d like.
Create 1″ cookie dough balls using a spoon or a cookie scoop. Place the cookie balls on a baking sheet that has been lined with parchment paper about 2″ apart. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the center of the cookie is set. But don’t over bake.
Remove the cookies from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack to cool completely. While the cookies cool you can whip up your frosting!
Use a whisk or spoon to combine powdered sugar and cocoa powder. Add in vanilla and water and stir/whisk until smooth. Add more water if needed but you will want a thick but smooth consistency.
Spoon the frosting over the cookies and spread it out. The frosting may run a little, but it shouldn’t be so thin where it runs too much. The frosting will dry and will be soft but hard.
Sprinkle on your favorite holiday sprinkles or powdered sugar – this is my favorite part!
Mmm!! My new favorite Chocolate Cookies for sure!!
