How to make Valentine’s Day Sugar Cookies
These cookies are PERFECT for parties, gifts, or just celebrating Valentine’s Day! Here is how to make Valentine’s Day Sugar Cookies!
First, cream together the butter and cream cheese. Then add in the sugar, salt, egg and vanilla and mix all together.
Next, stir in the flour and baking powder.
Now, divide the dough in half and wrap both halves in plastic wrap. Refrigerate for 1 hour.
Once your dough has chilled, roll it out and use your heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out the cookies. Place them on a prepared baking sheet and BAKE!
Now it’s time to DECORATE! (My favorite part!)
Mix the powdered sugar, heavy whipping cream, light corn syrup, vanilla, and water all together.
Then, drizzle the icing over the cookies. (You can also color your icing with food coloring if you’d like!)
Finally, top the cookies off with your holiday sprinkles. So FUN!
Valentine’s Day Sugar Cookies Recipe
Yields 40 Cutout Cookies
Cookie Ingredients:
1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
8 ounces cream cheese (softened)
1 1/4 cup granulated sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 egg
1 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
3 1/2 cups unbleached flour
3/4 teaspoon baking powder
Holiday Sprinkles
Icing Ingredients:
*Frosts 20 Cookies*
3 cups powdered sugar
3 tablespoon heavy whipping cream
4 teaspoons light corn syrup
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
3-4 tablespoons water
Gel food coloring (optional)
Directions for Valentine’s Day Cookies:
In a large mixing bowl with a hand mixer (or in a stand mixer), whip together butter and cream cheese.
Add sugar, salt, egg, and vanilla and mix well.
With a fork, slowly combine flour and baking powder.
Divide the dough in two and wrap each section in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 1 hour.
Once the dough is chilled, preheat the oven to 375 degrees and line a couple of baking sheets with parchment paper.
Sprinkle your surface and dough with flour and roll dough out to 1/4” thick.
Use a cookie cutter to cut shapes into your dough. If needed, re-roll out dough until all dough is used.
Transfer cookies to the prepared baking sheet.
Bake cutout cookies at 375 for 8-9 minutes or until edges start to get slightly brown. Do not over bake.
Let cookies cool for 5 minutes on the baking sheet before moving to a cooling rack.
While the cookies are cooling, make the icing.
To make the icing, combine powdered sugar, heavy whipping cream, light corn syrup, vanilla, and 2 tablespoons of water together and mix well.
If needed add another 1 or 2 tablespoons of water until you get your desired consistency.
If you want to color your icing, use a toothpick to transfer food coloring to icing. I used about 1 drop of red food coloring to make a soft pink.
Transfer icing into zippered bags and cut the tip off to drizzle over cookies and garnish with holiday sprinkles.
Notes:
● Work with half of the dough at a time so that the dough stays chilled and doesn’t get too soft.
● If dough gets too soft while cutting out cookies, put the cookies in the refrigerator for 5-10 minutes before baking.
● You can use whole milk instead of heavy whipping cream for the icing.
● If you want to pipe the cookies, make icing thicker and do not add as much water.
