What you’re going to need to make this Peppermint Cookies Recipe! 

  • You will need candy canes, miniature candy canes, or peppermints to make this recipe. If you don’t have any of those, grab these Peppermint Crunch Sprinkles
  • You will also need Almond Bark. If you don’t have almond bark, you can use white chocolate! 
  • Finally, you will need basic cookie ingredients for sugar cookies! Such a fun, festive, and simple recipe to make!

How to make this Peppermint Cookies Recipe

These Peppermint Cookies are perfect for the holidays! Here’s how to make them.

First, cream together the butter and sugar in a bowl.

Second, add in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract. Stir until everything is combined.

Next, add in the dry ingredients (flour, baking powder, salt, and baking soda) and mix altogether.

Add in the crushed peppermint and fold it into the cookie dough. (Save the rest for garnishing after the cookies are baked!)

Use a cookie scoop to make the cookie dough balls and place them on baking sheet. Time to bake!

Once the cookies have baked and cooled, melt the almond bark in bowl.

Finally, drizzle the almond bark over half the cookie. Sprinkle more of the crushed candy cane on top for the finishing touch! (Ta-da!)

Peppermint Sugar Cookies Ingredients

Peppermint Cookies Recipe

Yields: 16 cookies
Preparation Time: 12 minutes
Baking Time: 8 minutes
Additional Time: 7 minutes

Ingredients:
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
1/2 cup white granulated sugar
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
2 cups unbleached flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup crushed peppermint pieces (divided)
6 ounces white almond bark

Directions:
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a microwave safe bowl, soften butter in the microwave for about 15 seconds.
Cream together butter and sugar.
Stir in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract and mix well.
Add the flour, baking powder, salt, and baking soda and stir until combined.
Fold in about 1/4 cup crushed peppermint.
Using a cookie scoop, create 2 tablespoon cookie balls and place them about 2” apart on the prepared baking sheet and press the tops of the cookie balls down.
Bake for 8-9 minutes or until the edges start to brown.
Remove from the oven and let cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.
Once cooled completely, melt the almond bark according to the directions.
Drizzle over half of each cookie and garnish with crushed peppermint.

Notes:
● You can use white chocolate instead of almond bark.
● Cookies can be dipped into white chocolate or almond bark instead of drizzled.
● Peppermints or peppermint sprinkles can be used instead of candy canes. You could also use full sized candy canes.

Personally, I love the drizzle look with the almond bark. You only do this on half of the cookies to add a little something special and then garnish the cookie with peppermint pieces.

However, if you’d like, you could always dip these cookies into the almond bark and then sprinkle with peppermint.

Both ways taste amazing! Just a different look if you have a preference 🙂

Can I use peppermint extract instead of almond extract in this recipe?

Yes, I don’t see why you couldn’t make the swap if you love peppermint and want a really strong peppermint flavor.

Not a fan of almond extract, or you don’t have any at home, no worries! You can always omit this and use 1 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract instead.
