How to Make Southwest 7 Layer Dip
This dip is SO easy to make! Grab a short glass dish or pie pan since the dip won’t be very tall! If you want to see the pretty layers, use glass. I used cast iron because that’s what I had!
Start by gathering all of your ingredients so that you can layer the dip quickly. Mix your taco seasoning into the cream cheese and prepare your guacamole (if it isn’t already prepared).
My favorite ingredient in this Homemade Guacamole is lime juice, so be sure to use enough for a burst of flavor!
For the Southwest Cream Cheese I mixed 2 teaspoons of Taco Seasoning into 4oz of cream cheese. Mix well and spread in the bottom of your bowl.
Next layer on your refried beans and spread the guacamole. See below for my favorite guacamole recipe!
Finally, layer on black beans, corn, tomatoes and green chiles, and black olives!
Serve with chips, Fritos, or crackers!

What are the layers of 7 Layer Dip?
The best part about 7 Layer Dip is you can pick your 7 layers of goodness! Use the layers mentioned above, or if you are looking for alternatives layer ideas, think about using shredded lettuce, shredded cheese, salsa, sour cream, bell peppers, or jalapenos. All of these would add a great burst of flavor to this dip recipe.
Should 7 Layer Dip be Heated?
This 7 Layer Dip is meant to be served cold. If you removed the guacamole and added in a layer of cheese, this would make the perfect 7 Layer Hot Dip Recipe!
How Far In Advance Can You Make 7 Layer Dip?
You can make the southwest cream cheese layer ahead of time, but I would wait to put it all together until you are ready to serve. Especially if you are using guacamole in your 7 layer dip.
