How to Make Creamsicle Orange Sugar Cookies!
These Orange Sugar Cookies are an absolute MUST this Summer! I love how simple and easy they are – plus, they’re SO fun! Here’s how to make delicious Creamsicle Orange Sugar Cookies!
Start by mixing together your cream cheese filling. Combine your cream cheese, powdered sugar, orange extract, and orange zest in a bowl and chill in the refrigerator for 45 minutes or longer.
Next, cream together your butter and sugar in another bowl. Mix in the egg and vanilla until fully combined. (Or replace the vanilla with orange extract even MORE orange flavor!)
Add in your orange zest. (I LOVE the added flavor this gives!)
Now measure and mix in the flour, baking powder, salt, and baking soda. Add in 10 drops of yellow and 10 drops of red food coloring. (You can do more or less drops if you want) Mix altogether really well, then refrigerate the dough for 30 minutes.
Once the dough has chilled, preheat your oven to 350 degrees and prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Create cookie dough balls using a cookie scoop. (You will need 2 dough balls per cookie.) Flatten both cookie dough balls and add about 1/2 teaspoons of cream cheese filling into one of the cookie dough balls.
Place the other flattened cookie dough ball on top and form all of it back into a cookie dough ball. (The cream cheese filling is sealed inside.) Now coat the outside of the cookie dough ball in sugar and place on the baking sheet.
Finally, bake the cookie for 10 minutes. Once baked, let them cool completely on the baking sheet. Enjoy!

Additional time: 10 minutes
Cookie Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1/2 cup of unsalted butter, softened

1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon orange zest
1 1/2 cups unbleached flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon baking soda
1/8 teaspoon red food coloring (about 10 drops)
1/8 teaspoon yellow food coloring (about 10 drops)
Cookie Filling Ingredients:
4 oz cream cheese, softened
1 cup powdered sugar
1 teaspoon orange extract
1 teaspoon orange zest
Cookie Topping:
1/4 cup granulated sugar
Directions:
In a small mixing bowl, make the cookie filling first by combining the cream cheese, powdered sugar, orange extract, and orange zest together until smooth.
Refrigerate filling for at least 45 minutes.
While it’s in the fridge, create the cookie dough by combining the butter and sugar together in a medium sized mixing bowl.
Add the egg and vanilla extract and mix well.
Stir in the orange zest.
Add the flour, baking powder, salt, and baking soda and mix well.
Next, add about 10 drops of yellow food coloring and 10 drops of red food coloring. (Add less if desired) Mix the dough well.
Refrigerate dough for at least 30 minutes.
When you are ready to put the cookies together, preheat the oven to 350 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Use a 1 tablespoon cookie scoop to create cookie dough balls – you will need two for each cookie.
Flatten one of the cookie dough balls and put 1/2 teaspoon of cookie filling into the cookie.
Flatten another cookie dough ball and place it on top of the filling and seal the edges together.
Form the cookie back into a ball and roll it in the sugar to coat the outside.
Place back on the baking sheet about 2” apart.
Bake for 10 minutes.
Remove from the oven and let cool completely on the baking sheet.
Notes:
● If the cream cheese filling gets on the outside of the cookies it’s okay – it helps create a fun creamsicle swirl for the cookies.

What is the golden rule in baking Creamsicle Orange Sugar Cookies?
One my BEST tips for baking these Orange Cookies is to refrigerate the dough! This step isn’t required when baking cookies, but I HIGHLY recommend it! Refrigerating your dough before you bake hardens the cookie dough, which really helps your cookies not to spread while baking. This makes for soft and chewy cookies, instead of flat and crispy.
What is Creamsicle Orange Sugar Cookies?
Creamsicle Orange Sugar Cookies are make from simple sugar cookie ingredients with added orange zest for flavor and food coloring for color. They’re filled with a cream cheese filling, which is packed with more orange zest and extract for flavor, and then rolled in sugar before baking.
Do you put sugar on Creamsicle Orange Sugar Cookies before or after cooking?
BEFORE! Roll your cookie dough balls in granulated sugar before baking them. This will give the cookies a slightly crisper outside, while leaving the inside soft and chewy! I LOVE adding this texture to my sugar cookies! SO GOOD!
